HOW WE SELECT AND INSTALL YOUR WINDOW FILM
Window film selection isn’t one-size-fits-all. Before recommending a product, we assess glass type, orientation, building use, and your primary goal – heat rejection, privacy, safety, or compliance. Every installation starts with a diagnostic, not a sales pitch.
GLASS ASSESSMENT We verify glass type (annealed, tempered, laminated, or Low-E coated) before any film is specified. Certain films are incompatible with specific coatings and can cause seal failure or thermal stress in IGUs. This step prevents costly mistakes.
SOLAR ANALYSIS South- and west-facing glass in NYC gains significantly more heat than north-facing. We calculate solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) and visible light transmission (VLT) targets based on your orientation and comfort goals before specifying a film.
FILM SAMPLING We bring physical samples to your property or mail them in advance. You see the film in your actual lighting conditions – not in a showroom. Commercial projects include a mock-up panel on request.
AUTHORIZED PRODUCT SOURCING As authorized dealers, we source Solar Gard and Armorcoat directly from manufacturers – not through distributors. This means genuine product, full manufacturer warranty support, and access to the complete film catalog including lines not available through third-party suppliers.
CONTROLLED INSTALLATION ENVIRONMENT Film is applied to a thoroughly cleaned surface in a dust-minimized environment. All edges are trimmed to within 1/16″ of the frame. Standard films require up to 30 days to fully cure; safety films up to 90 days – we document this in every client handoff.

FAQ
What information do you need to give me an estimate online?
Send photos of the windows, approximate dimensions (width x height), and your building address. Include your film goal – solar control, privacy, safety – or let us recommend. We respond same day for most residential projects.
How long does window film last?
Depending on the product, manufacturer warranties range from 3 to 16 years, with Limited Lifetime coverage on select Solar Gard and Panorama lines. Film longevity depends on glass orientation, sun exposure, and whether the film is interior or exterior-mounted.
Can window film be installed on double-pane (IGU) windows?
Yes – with qualification. Not all films are compatible with all IGU configurations. Darker or highly reflective films can cause thermal stress in certain sealed units, leading to seal failure. We evaluate each window unit individually before recommending a product, and will tell you if a specific film isn’t suitable for your glazing.
Will window film affect my view or change how my apartment looks from outside?
Solar control films alter the appearance of glass to varying degrees – from nearly invisible to reflective silver or neutral bronze. We bring physical samples to your property so you see the result in your actual lighting before committing.
What's the difference between solar film and Low-E window film?
Solar control film primarily reduces heat and UV coming in through the glass. Low-E film reduces heat loss through the glass in winter – functioning more like a thermal retrofit. For NYC buildings facing both summer heat gain and winter heat loss, we often evaluate both options together.
Do you remove old film before installing new film?
Yes. Installing over existing film voids manufacturer warranties and produces poor results. Old film and adhesive residue are fully removed and the glass surface is prepared before any new product is applied.
