How do I choose between TrueVue 5, 15, 30, and 40 for my NYC apartment?
The number indicates visible light transmittance. TrueVue 5 (5% VLT) is for maximum privacy and heat rejection – best for south-facing units with extreme glare. TrueVue 40 (39% VLT) is for rooms where natural light matters more than solar control. For most NYC residential rooms, TrueVue 15 or 30 balances performance with livability. Will TrueVue film affect my NYC co-op board approval - and which variant is easiest to get approved?
TrueVue 30 and 40 have lower exterior reflectance (22% and 14%) and are the variants most co-op boards approve without pushback. TrueVue 5 and 15 have 44% exterior reflectance – visibly mirror-like – which some boards classify as facade alteration. Yes – this is the reverse reflectivity effect. During the day, high exterior reflectance provides privacy. Is TrueVue film compatible with window AC units - and does installation require removing the unit first?
Window AC units do not need to be removed for film installation on the surrounding glass. The film is applied to the fixed glass panes only, leaving the AC unit and its frame untouched. The only consideration is that air blown from the AC unit along the glass surface during the 30-day curing period can slightly extend curing time on nearby film edges – Total Window Service accounts for this in the installation sequence.
